The short version
Lang Party has no accounts and no ads, and sells nothing about you. We record what happens in the game (which buttons are tapped, which games are played, how far people get, which questions are hard) so we can see where the game is confusing or too hard and fix it. That record is tied to a random ID made up by your browser, never to your name, email or IP address.
What we record
- A random device ID. Your browser makes one up the first time you visit and keeps it. Our server stores only a short one-way hash of it, so the logs cannot be used to take over your seat in a room.
- What you do in the game: pages you open, the site or campaign link that brought you here, buttons you tap (such as Play, Create, Join, Practise mistakes), opening and changing the language list, rooms you create or join, games you start and finish, how many questions you answered and got right, the question where you stopped, whether you saw or used the leaderboard, share and invite buttons, topics and the app language you pick, error messages you were shown, which screen you left from and how long you spent on the page, and when each of these happened.
- Question statistics: how often each question is answered correctly and which wrong option was picked, linked to the hashed device ID, the room and the day. We use this to find questions that are too hard or wrong.
- Rough context: your country (worked out by Cloudflare from your connection; we never store the IP address), whether you are on a phone or a computer, and your browser's language.
- Your name, only where you put it. The name you type is shown to the other players in your room and kept with the room while it is open. If you publish a score, the name and score go on the public leaderboard. Names are never written to the activity log.
- Notifications, only if you turn them on. The browser's push subscription is kept in memory for your open room and forgotten when it closes.
What stays on your device
To remember you between visits, the app stores these in your browser's local storage: the random ID, your name, the interface language, the last room you were in, the questions you got wrong (for "Practise mistakes") and the days you played (for your streak). For the current visit only it keeps the referring site and campaign link, and a pending review round. If you arrive through a langparty.app/go/… link, a cookie (lp_via) remembers that campaign name for 30 minutes. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it and gives you a fresh ID.
Why
- To run the game: rooms, rejoining after a reload, the leaderboard and your review list.
- To keep it working: rate limits and spotting errors.
- To improve it: seeing where people get stuck or leave, which questions are unfair, and which languages people want.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare carries the traffic to our server and so sees your IP address, like any network provider.
- Your browser's push service (Apple, Google or Mozilla) delivers notifications, only if you turn them on.
- Telegram: the people running Lang Party get short alerts when something happens in the game, such as a new room, a finished game or a published score. These contain the room code, country, device type, source and game results, never names.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking scripts.
How long we keep it
Rooms and their names are removed when the room closes. The activity log and question statistics are kept while they are useful for improving the game, and may be deleted or reduced to totals at any time. Published scores stay on the leaderboard; the public page shows the last 30 days.
Your choices
- You can play without typing a name and without publishing anything.
- Clear this site's data in your browser to reset your ID, review list and streak.
- To have a published score removed, or for any question about your data, contact [email protected].
Changes
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
